The focus of this workshop was to sensitize children to patterns all around us and experience maths as a fun set of activities. Children explored patterns in nature, music, poems, numbers and with manipulatives. They also made music, listened to stories and created their own patterns - poems, tessallations, rangoli and with rangometry shapes. All in all it was a very fun week between May 2nd - 6th.

During the 16 session long Child's Play theatre program children worked on many theatre exercises and on a script as they prepared to put up a performance in January 2016. It was a wonderful month of January at Kutoohala as Nala Nantha of Beyond Your Lens and her gang of 5-7 yr olds practiced hard to put together their learnings from their theatre classes into a performance. On Jan 30th, with their parents' and family as the audience, the children put up a lovely play - an adaptation of "Getting to know you" by Carol Pugliano - in which Christopher Columbus seeks sponsorship from Queen Isabella of Spain to find a sea route to India and instead discovers America.

Reading a story and listening to a master storyteller like Lavanya Prasad perform the same story are two very different things. The latter can make the story come alive through multiple modalities like singing, dancing, interacting, playing games and just simply listening. We all enjoyed Lavanya perform stories from childhood of APJ Abdul Kalam on Saturday Jan 16th!
